5:15-6:15PM Docent tours at the Guest House
6:30PM Premiere Performance
Please join us for a very special final event of Holly Rothschild's residency here at the Annenberg Community Beach House. Seven dancers will trace out a path through the Beach House site, leading audience members to various spots in the five-acre facility.
Drawing on history and architecture as well as the echoes of people present and past, Ms. Rothschild has been choreographing an original dance work over the previous ten weeks. The culminating performance will explore the site at dusk and sunset –using dance, gesture, and narrative to present the Beach House in a new light!
Please wear comfortable shoes and layers - the beach can change from warm to cool very quickly. The dance will be ~40 minutes, accompanied by a talk by Rothschild and a Q&A session.
Holly Rothschild is a dancer, choreographer, musician, and educator. Her collaborative and independent work has been presented at the Broad Stage, TED, The Athenaeum in Chicago, the 2006 and 2007 Grammy’s, The Wintergarden in New York City, The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and at many universities, venues and theaters throughout the U.S. and abroad. In 2008, she directed and choreographed Grey Shanty, a short dance film that was accepted into the 6th Annual Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema. Rothschild has created many original evening length dance theater pieces, site-specific works, original adaptations of theater works, and has choreographed several plays. Her work has received critical acclaim in Performing Arts Journal.
She is the founder and artistic director of Strange & Elegant Choreography and Performance Installations, a dance performance company that creates site-specific image based dance. Rothschild is also a co-founder, with designer/composer Luke Rothschild and cellist Joseph Harvey, of String Theory, a hybrid performance ensemble featuring musicians, dancers and large-scale sonic sculpture. As a movement educator, Rothschild spent several years as artist-in-residence in the theatre department at Chicago's Columbia College where she taught movement for actors. She has taught contemporary dance and performance workshops throughout the US to a variety of individuals including those with disabilities, senior citizens at San Francisco’s Theatre Artaud, actors at Chicago's Second City, and contact improvisation at a correctional facility in Alaska.
